The Diamond Shine of God

Lately diamonds have been in my thoughts and, oddly, I have been looking for that distinct sparkle on the ground where ever I go. I know it sounds silly, but I just have this feeling that diamonds are important for me right now. Of course I could go onto another tangent about the qualities and characteristic of diamonds and how that relates to me, but I believe that this is something altogether different. I have been seeing the color of deep burgundy and black and so I decided to start painting those colors..then lines and striations were added and I started seeing something looking like a heart muscle. How my heart needs to be infused with the light and glory of God, not just my spiritual heart but my physical heart as well. I saw the breath and the light of God coming into the painting, and not intentionally the swirls started taking on the shapes of hearts as well. I sprinkled "diamond dust" into the swirls to give it a luster and sparkle, as well as texture and form. In the same time period I happened to listen to a podcast by Cory Russel of IHOP (Intl. House of Prayer) and he described the "Diamond Shine of God" and the unapproachable light of His glory. This became the title of the painting...perfect! It is the diamond shine of God infusing the very physical muscle of my heart and deep into my spirit.

Beauty for Ashes

When I began to paint this I really had no idea what to paint. I made some texture in no particular pattern and then random color. Later I saw an image of the black swirls and vines along the edges, so I worked on them. Then I began to see the hearts hanging from the vines in my spirit. I thought that maybe this was silly and childish, but I went with it anyway. Love grows on these vines, beauty from the darkness, color from the ashes and I praise God! Within the vines I have hidden the scripture, "beauty for ashes, a garment of praise for heaviness".
